FUTURE TRANSIT OPTIONS

LIGHT RAIL BETWEEN THE SOUTHWEST METRO AND DOWNTOWN, VIA UPTOWN

The Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority is studying the possibility of connecting Downtown Minneapolis to the southwest suburbs of St. Louis Park, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Chanhassen. The routes under consideration will serve the West Calhoun district in Uptown and may also serve the core Uptown district and Lyn-Lake district. Don't get your hopes up for a ride anytime soon, as the earliest the line would open is 2015. Learn more.

MINNEAPOLIS STREETCAR NETWORK

The City of Minneapolis studied the possibility of bringing back streetcars to Minneapolis. Unlike its predecessors of the early 20th Century, these modern streetcars are sleek and ADA-friendly. The city is investigating how to fund their capital and operational expenses. The study concluded that there was a distinct possibility that the Midtown Greenway/Lake Street corridor and Hennepin Avenue would see a streetcar line. Again, don't make plans to ride anytime soon.
