In the mid 1970s, Snyder Drug remodeled their store at 3001 Hennepin Avenue in Uptown, Minneapolis. The new store featured a bright red band around the outside of the store with the updated company logo.
The remnants of Bikeways, a bicycle shop in Uptown, marks the wall of Savitt's Home Furnishings at 2939 Hennepin Avenue. Later, Snyders would move into the space. Tables at McDonald's acted as a hang out location for those who later were labeled "McPunks."
Snyder Drug's parking lot on the southwest corner of Girard Avenue and Lake Street in Uptown, Minneapolis.
This parking lot at the southwest corner of Girard Avenue and Lake Street served the Snyder Drug store at the corner of Hennepin and Lake Street. It later was redeveloped as a one-story retail building.
A fire destroyed the Thirty O Five Building on June 26, 1975. The four-alarm fire destroyed the three-story building that housed The Clothes Line, the Ballet Center, Hallmark Uptown Card Shop (see note below), and an office and an apartment. Sixteen fire rigs fought the blaze.
Note: A Star Tribune article had a photo of the blaze with a bright Hallmark sign where the Natural Foods sign exists on the photo above. It is believed that the Hallmark sign was in front of the Natural Foods sign and was removed after the fire.
This vacant lot was for sale by Coldwell Banker. A fire destroyed the preexisting building during the early 1970s.
Three individuals enjoy a day in Uptown. This photograph was taken looking Northwest from Lake Street between Hennepin Avenue and Girard Avenue. Pictured behind where Davanni's currently resides is The Dress Mart, Nelson's Shoe Repairing, and South of the Border (Mexican American Food). Cold Stone Creameries used to house The Treasure Chest Cards and Gifts.
Thomas Designs and Savitts Home Furnishings dominated the east side of Hennepin Avenue between Lagoon Avenue and Lake Street in Uptown.
Snyder Drug moved to 2939 Hennepin Avenue from down the block. The new store offered a much more updated store with lots of unobstructed window front. Note the McDonald's patio and parking lot to the left of the building, as it was a common hang out of metro-area punks during the 1980s and early 1990s.
The old Hennepin Lake Car Wash was once a site of the Hennepin-Lake Auto Park. Today the land is home to Kinko's, Great Clips, TCF Bank, and CD Warehouse.
After a fire destroyed the two-story building at 1409 West Lake Street, Minnesota Lumber & Wrecking removed what remained of the structure. A similar-sized structure replaced the building, most recently housing Rotisseria.
