Project Description
Replacing the UPS Store and Tibet's Corner, The North Face occupies a new, single-tenant building just south of Urban Outfitters at Lake and Hennepin. Demolition began in June 2007 with construction beginning shortly after. The building was mostly completed by late fall 2007 but the store did not open until March 2008.

The building features tall ceilings so that a second floor loft can be added at a later time. The North Face's bright red paneling and signs provide a nice contrast to the gray, metal panels on the exterior, adding a modern look to the Hennepin-Lake intersection. JBL Architects states that "the restraint of the minimalist facade sustains the integrity of its historic neighbors by not forcing them to compete for attention."

The painted southern facade is minimal, but will likely be covered up by future development, such as the proposed Hennepin Row development project.
